why I can't watch TV tonight

It all started when we moved the couch into the back room so we could move the table into the front room.  Then the apple green couch didn't go with the turquoise green walls, so we had to paint the back room.  But because it was such a bright color, painting it is a big project involving primer.  We got a late start because Ian showed up at Home Depot while we were there buying paint looking for a ride since he had dropped off his Suburu at Protech and when we stopped at the thrift store to drop off some bags that I have been meaning to get rid of for WEEKS Ian found a golf club he needed to buy, which meant we had to go inside the thrift store.  We looked at beer glasses and books and DVD's and soup tureens, buying all of them, and finally got home.  Then we had to eat lunch.  So it was 1:00 before we started painting and there was lots of cutting in to do and the walls are rough and hard to paint.  Scott is tired, so we will finish tomorrow after the Good Shepherd 50th anniversary party.  In the meantime...no TV for me.

Ranch in Glennville

We were so lucky to have beautiful warm weather on Saturday for the the reunion of the the jury.  Not too many were able to make it, but the fun surprise was to see the bailiff.  He did such a good job of babysitting us.  He couldn't wait to tell me how the judge mentions me, every day!, in court when he gives the jury instructions about, yep, NOT BLOGGING about the trial.

Why my job is never boring....

Occasionally I like to just let the kids talk because it is amusing to see where the stream of conscious conversation among 7 year olds goes.  Here is verbatim what was said during our reading group time yesterday.
"Draw two pilgrims and a turkey." (This was the line in the story that Eli read.)
Eli looks up: "I feel like turkey."
Elinor: " I have two baby turkeys at home.  I get to hold them in my hands."
pause
Elinor: " They go poop in my hands."
Eli: "My grandma's dog wipes his butt on the carpet."
Elinor: "Turkey poop stinks."
Eli: "You should smell my grandma's dog!"

I swear this is exactly what they said.

Talent Show

We had a little talent show in the classroom on the day before Easter vacation.  Or, should I say, Spring Break.  We just did it for each other, didn't invite parents so it was low key and lots of fun.  I had the kids sign up on the board.
